Beale tips Tahs to shock Super Rugby y

- TOM DECENT

KURTLEY Beale believes the Waratahs can shock the Super Rugby competition with their skill level and, if team-mates can get on the same page, there is no reason why they can’t emulate the feats of the title-winning team of 2014.

The Waratahs have less than a week before their first assignment against the Stormers at Allianz Stadium.

It is unlikely there will be a repeat of last season’s disaster, which saw the Waratahs leak an average of 40 points a game and notch up just four victories from 15 starts.

The one key player who wasn’t there for any of the carnage was Beale, who was fulfilling duties in England with Wasps.

Watching from the other side of the world wasn’t easy for one of the Waratahs’ favourite sons.

Beale always knew he would come back to the Waratahs and after seeing how last season fell apart in tumultuous circumstances, he has more desire than ever to help NSW succeed.

A member of the Waratahs side who won a Super Rugby title in 2014, defeating the Crusaders 33-32 in the final, Beale can’t see any reason why this group of players can’t aim for the same lofty heights.

‘‘There was a lot of experience back then in the pack and backs but if everyone can take all their experience and be on the same page, then we’ll give ourselves a good chance,’’ Beale said. ‘‘Skilfully, we can shock the competition. It’s a matter of everyone buying into the same thing and making sure everyone is on the same page. If that occurs, we’ll give ourselves a really good opportunity of success.

‘‘There’s a lot of guys in our team who have got awesome speed, great agility and this is a great arena for a lot of these guys to showcase those skills.

‘‘I love playing in the sky blue
