Swim search

Emergency services were last night looking for a teenager missing in water at a remote West Auckland beach. The 16-year-old disappeared in the water shortly after midday, prompting a large-scale rescue operation at Whatipu, including a Coastguard search plane. Two female swimmers reportedly in trouble made it to shore safely and were assessed by paramedics. A crowd had gathered at the beach late afternoon and emergency services said the search was continuing past sunset.
