Langman and Kopua lead Ferns in UK
SILVER Ferns midcourter Laura Langman, pictured, has been re-elected as the team’s captain through the end of the Netball World
Cup.
Former captain Casey Kopua has been made vice captain for the upcoming Quad Series only at this stage.
The pair were chosen for the roles after a vote held yesterday in the UK by the wider Silver Ferns squad and management, a process coach Noeline Taurua introduced after taking charge last August and which handed the captaincy back to Langman.
Her predecessor as captain, Katrina Rore, was elected vice captain at the time but when Rore wasn’t selected for this month’s Quad Series, a new vice captain was needed.
"Laura was a player that other team members certainly looked up to last year in terms of her passion and work ethic," Taurua said. ‘‘She took the captaincy role in her stride and led from the front with her expectations and standards set on court."
Tomorrow’s Quad Series opener against the England Roses [7am NZ time] will be Kopua’s first Silver Ferns test since 2015. She retired in early 2017, but came back to the fold last year.
Taurua said the defender was ‘‘excited to be back’’. ‘‘Both Casey and Laura bring different attributes to the team, they complement each other and they both know what is required on the international stage."
