West Coast in a canter
Classy jumper West Coast ambled his way to victory in yesterday’s 147th Grand National Steeplechase (5600m) at Riccarton in Christchurch. Sent to the lead from barrier rise by rider Shaun Fannin, the seven-year-old gelding set a leisurely pace before upping the tempo starting the final round of the circuit and cantering home by 10 lengths. Carnaby, who had sat second throughout, had to settle for the runner-up position, with Tittletattle third. – NZ Racing Desk
