Total Troy joy
Troy Kingi is absolutely everywhere at the moment. Last night he opened for Midnight Oil for the seminal Aussie ecorockers’ farewell tour at Spark Arena in Auckland; just last week he launched a new six-part documentary series, Our Other Islands, on MAORI+ and Whakaata Mā ori; and the countdown is already on for the September 23 launch of the first single off his sixth album in his 10/10/10 series in which he’s trying (successfully so far) to release 10 albums in 10 years in 10 different genres. Chatterbox is particularly enthralled with the sound of this latest outing, The Year of the Ratbags and their Musty Theme Songs, as it pitches Kingi headlong into the world of 80s synthpop and promises inspiration from the likes of Prince, Tears for Fears and Human League ‘‘and bad hair’’!
