No more Thomas trials
Arthur Allan Thomas, who was wrongfully convicted of the murders of Harvey and Jeannette Crewe, will not face a second trial on charges of historical sex offending. It is understood a stay in prosecution has been ordered because of the 84-year-old’s mental health deteriorating and concerns he was no longer fit to stand trial. He was to stand trial for a second time in November, after a jury in last year failed to reach verdicts. The Crown had said Thomas abused two women when they were girls and, on some occasions, other people were present. His lawyer, Marie Dyhrberg KC, said the complaints were motivated by a desire to get at Thomas’ compensation for being twice wrongfully convicted for the 1970 Crewe murders.
