Eighth success for Guppy
WAYNE Guppy has retained the mayoralty for Upper Hutt after winning his eighth election.
Guppy defeated Angela McLeod by 1400 votes following a low-key campaign that only hit the headlines when an alleged Action Zealandia candidate, Jordan Milburn, was unmasked.
Milburn subsequentÂly resigned from his job at the Civil Aviation
Authority and made only one appearance at a meet the candidates meeting. Milburn received 1349 votes but was the second-lowest polling candidate.
Losing the mayoralty was bad news for McLeod, who in 2019 was the highest-polling council candidate.
This time she decided to chase only the mayoralty.
