Final election results out
Auckland’s elections results have been finalised, confirming several close races in which two election-night results were overturned by the provisional count released on Monday. It creates an Auckland Council in which the mayor Wayne Brown leads a team of 20. In the final count, a total of 405,149 votes were returned – 35.5% of enrolled voters. In 2019’s election, the voter turnout was 35.3%. The final result confirms Monday’s indication that Julie Fairey has been elected in Albert-Eden-Puketā papa ward and Kerrin Leoni has won in Whau. In the western Whau ward, Labour’s Kerrin Leoni missed out on election day by 150 votes, but with the provisional count two days later, ousted sitting councillor Tracy Mulholland by 278 votes. The gap widened to 362 votes in the official count.
