As Jaquie Brown’s sometime-stylist for many years, I’ve learned what suits her best. You’d be forgiven for thinking anything suits Jaquie, but that is rarely true of anyone. The ability to convey the idea that you’d suit anything comes from considered dressing over a long period of time. Now that Jaquie is wearing her hair grey, the pastels and beige tones that used to suit her dark hair tend to wash her out. The warm undertone of her skin, combined with white-grey hair and mischievous, deep brown eyes, are best complemented by warm, strong colours like red, pinks, greens and rich blues.
Standing at 5’5” (165cm), Jaquie is statistically average female height. Even so, this Glassons trench in size Small is too long in the sleeves – the sleeves are tucked, cinched and rolled here.
It’s never wrong to tweak a garment to work for your figure, but ultimately, you want your sleeves to be able to function without rolling and cuffing. So I’d tell Jaquie to keep looking for a coat with the right length sleeves, or have them altered.
Length-wise, the coat is at least an inch longer than I’d suggest for her height, though heels and the side splits counteract that. Glassons check trench, $100. 1.
