Privacy with a splendid view

With Hauraki Gulf views this property will be somebody’s dream home, writes Rosalind Le Bas Walker.

WHEN ALLAN and Eve Brown arrived from Britain eight years ago, they were unable to find a home which met their exacting international standards. So they set about finding a stunning site on the Hibiscus Coast to create their own luxury residence.

They purchased a rare parcel of elevated north-facing land offering complete privacy, with spectacular views north over the Hauraki Gulf, down the Weiti River and surrounding rural land to the rear of the property.

Accessed by an electronically controlled gate, the circular driveway leads to the front of the home with ample car parking areas. The home has been tastefully designed with meticulous attention to detail and built to uncompromising standards.

‘‘This home has been constructed to last, using tilt slab reinforced concrete panels and floors and few houses in New Zealand are built in this way – it can never suffer from leaky building syndrome,’’ says owner Allan Brown, a quantity surveyor.

Designed with clean lines, the house features an imposing cantilevered roof. The windows are double glazed using laminated glass for added insulation and UV protection. Polished dark oak timber flooring has been laid throughout with exceptionally durable Smart Strand carpet in all the bedrooms. The entire house is airconditioned using solid ducting which is cleverly concealed within the building’s structure.

The views from the upper level with its open plan kitchen, dining family and formal lounge rooms stretch across the Gulf to Great Barrier Island. Full height doubleglazed sliding doors open out to a 50-square-metre deck which embraces the views.

There is also a TV entertainment room, office, a second family room, gym and utility room. The master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe, en suite bathroom and its own external deck with views down the river.

The house provides space and excellent family separation and has been designed for easy entertaining.

The elegant kitchen is equipped with the latest Fisher and Paykel appliances, deep-profile granite bench tops and a large butler’s pantry. A dumb waiter provides a convenient link between floors for groceries or laundry.

A tennis court with its own pavilion and a 9 x 4m salt chlorinated swimming pool with cabana make it a lovely place to relax with friends, says Eve.

There are many added features to this home. Allan and Eve will be sorry to let this brand-new house go before living in it. But a change in their family circumstances means that they now wish to sell, so their beautiful new property will become someone’s treasured dream home.
