Long awaited NSX imminent

After the success of the game-changing original, Honda is finally about to reveal its all-new NSX, writes

KNOWN AS an Acura in the United States and as a Honda everywhere else, the NSX is one of the most eagerly awaited new sports cars of all.

It is designed to replace the celebrated original NSX of 24 years ago, which caused a rethink of the whole supercar genre when it was launched.

The new car has been promised for almost a decade but has had a long, excruciating gestation thanks to various new regimes at Honda rearranging priorities and cancel- Mid-Ohio Indy 200 at part of the Izod series for the assembled spectators to see and listen to.

Honda North America’s Acura Facebook page is saying: ‘‘ Acura fans, here’s your exclusive first look at the new NSX prototype, see it take a lap August 4th before the Mid-Ohio Indy 200. Live at 3pm EDT on NBC.’’

From that we’re sure that keen Kiwi NSX fans can organise some streamed coverage from their computers if tomorrow morning’s (New Zealand time) Mid-Ohio Indy 200 coverage doesn’t show it.

Meanwhile, the latest from Acura says: ‘‘ The new NSX prototype maintains the styling and proportions of the NSX Concept that debuted at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit while packaging the production vehicle’s mid-mounted V6 engine mated to Acura’s innovative new three-motor Sport Hybrid SHAWD ( Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system.’’

Sounds good. Can’t wait.

?? ?? Long time coming: The Honda/Acura NSX is due to take a lap at the Mid-Ohio Indy 200 this weekend.
