Q. We are a mid-50s couple, planning a trip to Vietnam in January 2014. We have two to three weeks to explore and relax. It’s our first visit to Asia. How can we make the most of our time there?

A. Two to three weeks in Vietnam is a great amount of time to explore Vietnam’s scenery and fascinating culture. Start in the north by flying in to historical Hanoi. Having an English-speaking guide will enrich your insight into this city. Out to the coast is scenic Halong Bay with spectacular sunsets – a great opportunity to experience an overnight boat trip on a replica junk. Stay in Hue, en route to Hoi An, and explore the city set along the Perfume River. You can witness the grandeur of the Imperial Citadel, once ruled by emperors. Driving between Hue and Hoi An is a highlight, too, best experienced by travelling over the Hai Van Pass.

Enjoy Hoi An over three to four nights. It not only boasts a beautiful beach but you also have the quaint Old Town, with lantern-filled streets, beautiful restaurants, art galleries and more. Fly down to Ho Chi Minh City, more commonly known as Saigon, and be sure to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, a complex of underground tunnels built during the Vietnam War. The Mekong Delta region is also a must-see. You’ll see a unique way of life with home industries, orchards and waterways. House of Travel can help you build the perfect Vietnam itinerary.
