FANCY DAN’S?

CARTER HOUSE ON MARKET

- By GEORGINA STYLIANOU

ONE OF the country’s most private sports stars has given the public an intimate glimpse into his personal life.

All Black Dan Carter is selling his Christchurch house and, after months on the market and a big drop in asking price, it’s finally under offer.

Carter, wife Honor and baby son Marco are moving to Auckland and their house in the suburb of Shirley went on the market in early June.

Two months later, and the property’s listing on Trade Me says it is under offer.

The North Parade home was originally listed with a pricetag of $645,000. Last week it was reduced to $629,000 and the tag ‘‘Vendors Want Sold’’ was added.

Land records show the Crusaders’ first-five co-owns the property with his manager Warren Alcock, who did not return calls.

The property has a land area of 695 square metres and boasts three bedrooms and two bathrooms. According to Christchurch City Council files, the house has a 2007 rateable value of $576,000.

The Trade Me listing describes it as a ‘‘low maintenance, architecturally designed executive home’’.

‘‘The home also features a remote-controlled security system, lockable office or study, spacious family bathroom . . . all combining to create a safe, convenient family environment.’’

There was also an ‘‘attractive easy-care garden’’, vegetable patch and an automated irrigation system.

Bayleys real estate agent Richard Innes said he could not comment on the deal because he had an agreement with the Canterbury Rugby Football Union not to talk to media. Requests to speak to Carter have gone unanswered.

Carter’s father, Neville Carter, did not know whether his son was buying other property in Christchurch.

But the All Blacks pin-up boy is expected to take a playing sabbatical next Super Rugby season and relocate to Christchurch while his ties with the Crusaders are on hold. There has been speculation he could play for his club, Southbridge, during the sabbatical.

Carter’s wife, former New Zealand hockey international Honor Carter, recently gave birth to their first child, Marco James, and the couple have business interests in Auckland.

But it seems the shift north will be a wrench for the family, with Honor Carter tweeting last week: ‘‘Such happy memories of Christchurch, sad to be leaving. #backtodorkland’’.
