Bust points to Taliban

-

Georgia says US$400 million (NZ$468m) worth of heroin seized earlier this month, in the country’s biggest ever drug bust, belonged to the Taliban and was headed for Europe. Georgian police arrested two Georgian citizens after finding 2.79 tonnes of liquid heroin in a truck that had entered the country from neighbouring Azerbaijan. ‘‘That drug originated in Afghanistan and belonged to the Taliban,’’ Georgian Interior Minister Alexander Chikaidzeer told a hearing in parliament yesterday. Georgia’s previous biggest drug seizure was last July, when police arrested two foreigners after finding 116 kilograms of heroin in a truck that had entered from Armenia.
