Ghost in the Shell cast members have ranked wildlife sanctuary Zealandia their No 1 experience while filming in the capital.
Wellington became a home away from home for many cast members, with the majority of the film shot in the capital.
The production now heads to Hong Kong after filming wrapped in Wellington earlier this month.
The DreamWorks Studios live action anime film is based on the acclaimed Japanese manga and anime series of the same name, about a cyborg police officer attempting to bring down a villainous computer hacker, played by Hollywood A-lister Scarlett Johansson.
Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks issued a release this week with cast members Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Tawanda Manyimo, and Yutaka Izumihara sharing their list of Wellington’s must-do experiences.
Aside from Zealandia, the actors’ top nine included the Mt Victoria lookout, the city’s cafe scene, arts, culture, and restaurants – including Ortega Fish Shack, Crabshack, and Dockside – Seal Coast Safari, crocodile bikes around the downtown harbour fringe, the Cable Car, and Cuba St – described in the release as ‘‘the funky heart of Wellington, a vibrant part-pedestrian precinct with eclectic shopping, restaurants, and street entertainment’’.
‘‘The cast regularly shopped at Cuba St and visited the food stalls at the Wellington night market.’’
Cast member Danusia Samal said Wellington was compact and friendly.
‘‘We have been able to walk everywhere, soak up the city’s creative atmosphere, and see it all,’’ Samal said.
