BMW distils the essence of M5 with its ‘Pure’ edition

New car means the M5 is going out with a bang.

-

Much as it did with the previousgeneration M3, BMW has announced a ‘‘performance focused’’ variant of the M5 – the Pure.

BMW New Zealand says that the M5 Pure ‘‘distils the iconic nameplate to its very essence, dispensing with peripheral features to focus on the essentials, celebrating the 412kW, 680Nm, high-revving V8 engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology’’.

Which basically means it still gets loads of equipment, but it is all largely focused around going very fast.

The BMW M5 Pure includes 20-inch M double-spoke alloy wheels, electrically adjustable sports seats covered in leather Merino upholstery, electronic tyre pressure monitoring, ConnectedDrive Services and Internet as standard kit.

Like the standard M5, the Pure is equipped with a seven-speed dualclutch transmission, an active differential, dynamic damper control, M dynamic mode and high-performance compound brakes as standard.

As full suite of driver assistance systems also feature, including radar cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian warning with light city braking activation, lane change warning and a heads-up display. The M3 Pure was something of a ‘last blast’ for the V8-powered M3 locally, with the model coming to the end of its lifecycle. The same is true of the M5. Unlike the M3, however, the M5 won’t be downsizing for the next generation, with the new car said to be getting a refined version of the existing car’s V8, cranked up to around 450kW. The M5 Pure retails for $179,900.
