Whale gets escort
Migaloo, believed to be the world’s only white humpback whale, has been given his own police escort as he makes his annual migration north along the Queensland coast, because sightseeing boats are getting too close. The famous whale, first photographed in 1991 and last spotted two years ago, is being shadowed by boatloads of police and environmental protection officers. All vessels, including jetskis, are prohibited from getting closer than 500 metres to Migaloo, who was struck by a boat off Townsville in 2003.
