Four rings
Audi’s four ring logo comes directly from its predecessor Auto Union. The four rings represented the four brands amalgamated under the Auto Union umbrella – Horch, DKW, Wanderer and Audi. The cars built under Auto Union never actually used the four rings logo however, and they all continued to use their individual names and emblems, but the logo was used on the Auto Union racing cars. Auto Union merged with NSU in 1969 and changed its name to Audi NSU Auto Union AG, which was shortened to Audi AG in 1985.
