Skifield rescue

Seventy-five people were rescued from a South Canterbury skifield chairlift on Friday after a skier dismounted awkwardly, damaging the machinery. The skier held on to the chair too long after getting off and it became entangled in the chairlift infrastructure, bending some steel. Police search and rescue were called as staff brought skiers down from the lift. The weather on the field was fine and calm.
