With infectious calypso music, ocean trampolines and the Sunday gospel brunch buffet, Barbados packs a punch when it comes to holiday activities and is a destination that should quickly move to the top of your list.

A must-visit travel spot for those looking for culture delightfully mixed with sunshine, I visited Barbados, which is roughly 33km long and 19km wide, last year, and had the time of my life.

If cultural experiences tickle your fancy then check out the Harbour Lights Beach Extravaganza in Bridgetown. Similar to a Hawaiian luau, the show includes singing, dancing, stilt-walking and flame-blowing. A traditional barbecue is served alongside well-crafted cocktails – I can recommend the rum punch.

If it’s local eats you’re after, check out the delicacies at Mustor’s Restaurant, also in Bridgetown.

The pudding and souse is a must-try. Based on a very old recipe, the pickled pork and sweet potato dish is a Saturday staple for many Bajans.

For those who enjoy getting the blood pumping, The Boatyard in Bridgetown needs a visit. With ocean trampolines, iceberg climbs, slides, diving platforms, rope swings and more, it’s hard to be bored!
