Half-true. You do have to be enrolled, but you can enrol and vote all in one trip right up until the day before the election! To quote the NZ Electoral commission website: ‘‘To vote in the 2017 General Election, you need to be enrolled by Friday 22 September. You can enrol and vote at any advance voting place – but you can’t enrol on election day (Sept 23).’’
