Dangling on a swing 100 metres above Amsterdam wasn’t what I had in mind for my trip to The Netherlands.

We were feeling more brave than usual and decided to take a turn on the terrifying OverTheEdge swing that sits 100m above Amsterdam.

We paid around 13 euros ($21) to go up to the A’DAM Lookout observation deck and 5 euros for the swing. Take a credit card with you as they don’t accept cash at the roof top. This place is open until 10pm every night; go during the evening so you can catch an epic sunset.

A five-minute walk from the famous Anne Frank house is the luminous Electric Ladyland underground museum. I was told that this is the world’s first museum devoted to the magic of fluorescent light. You’re surrounded by strange shapes, which spring to life when they turn the black lights on.

Another highlight was De Pijp. This working-class neighbourhood-turnedhipster neighbourhood has cute cafes and underground bars.

When you’re in this area, Albert Cuyp Market is a must-visit and is open every day except Sunday, from 9am to 6pm. You’ll find quirky clothing and delicious waffles for as little as 2 euros.
