Wins, losses, and Winston

-

I have had the great joy of sitting across from the self-appointed dogma that is Winston Peters for the past three years. The Ma¯ori Party had one rule in the house when it came to heckling or ‘‘interjecting’’: We don’t, it’s not our way, we must be mana-enhancing. Unless we are attacked. ‘‘Then you can go for your life,’’ advised my co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell.

In Winston I always had a vent for my pentup heckling frustration.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Winnie. We had a genuine enjoyment for scrapping in the house – we laughed about it often. Winston would wink at me and chuckle, ‘‘well, someone needs to liven the place up’’.

So the question is, Left or Right, red or blue. If I’m honest (I’m an ex-politician … you decide) either way we’re screwed.

No Treaty references in law, remove significant gains from the RMA, remove ‘‘racebased’’ (much needed) targeted funding, scrap whanau ora!

Warning: I foresee three years of provocative action to stem the tide of equity bloodletting. You can trust me, I’m an expert – according to Winston.

‘‘That Marama Fox has been here five minutes and she’s already an expert at everything.’’

Thanks Koro Winitana. Ma¯ori Party co-leader Marama Fox lost her seat in Parliament last weekend.
