Lion’s victory

Rugby: Welsh rugby player Scott Baldwin couldn’t play against the Cheetahs with club side Oyspreys this week after being bitten by a Lion. The hooker missed a 44-25 mauling in the Pro14 competition after being bitten while trying to pet a lion at a game lodge in the South African city of Bloemfontein. Baldwin’s late withdrawal was originally put down to an unspecified hand injury but questions were asked after Ospreys players had posted pictures of themselves holding lion cubs during a visit to the Weltevreden Game Lodge during the week.’’There was an incident with a lion, it’s nothing to do with the lion in all fairness to it but he did bite Scott,’’ Ospreys coach Steve Tandy said. ‘‘When you put your hand through a fence into an enclosure and there is a lion in there, you can expect to get bit. He had plenty of warning, so it’s pretty stupid on Scott’s behalf. He’s pretty lucky.’’
