Ali Mau leaves RadioLive Drive
Sunday Star-Times columnist Alison Mau has announced she will leave her daily RadioLive Drive radio show in February.
Mau said she’d been ‘‘incredibly fortunate’’ to spend four years at the station, learning the radio business.
‘‘Having spent my early career in print journalism – then more than 20 years in television – radio was a new frontier for me.
‘‘On my first day with Willie Jackson in early 2014, I was terrified.
‘‘Four years later, I leave with a store of cross-platform skills I could only have dreamed of back then.’’
Mau said she’d been honoured to serve RadioLive Drive’s loyal and engaged audience.
‘‘Radio is incredibly intimate, you really are talking to each listener individually as they go about their day; at their desk, in their car, on the tractor with their headphones in.
‘‘In 2017, our Drive team has grown that audience by 15,000. We’ve had some amazing conversations. I love my listeners and I’ll miss talking with them.’’
Mau said it had become clear RadioLive was about to undergo significant change, which she was not convinced would best suit her skills.
She would not be drawn on her plans for 2018, saying ‘‘it’s a bit too early to make those details public.’’
Mediaworks chief news officer Hal Crawford said he had enjoyed working with Mau and RadioLive would be making changes in 2018.
