Our Lorde is taking His name in vain

A chat between Lorde and The Lord could be a little awkward.

Idon’t know who advised Lorde to go to the Middle East but they need to be fired, expelled like an Al Jazeera journalist from Egypt.

Initially the singer formerly known as Ella had a date to play in Tel Aviv, but after receiving a few upset tweets she reconsidered and decided playing a concert in Israel wasn’t kosher, or was haram, or something.

It isn’t clear if Ms YelichO’Connor sought divine guidance on this tricky issue. Hopefully she did. After all, this is His old stomping ground and He might have had some insight even if the last visit didn’t go that well.

Still. Let’s consider the wisdom of what was proposed. This is the Holy Land, not far from Mt Sinai where Moses received the Ten Commandments and the third is unambiguous; Thou shall not take the name of the Lord in vain.

I’d expect a chat between our Lorde and The Lord would be a little awkward on this point. This is a guy who turned Lot’s Wife into a pillar of salt for looking backwards at Sodom, so trading on His name is the biblical definition of blasphemy. Possibly not best to bring this infraction to divine attention.

Jesus, you may recall, entered Jerusalem on a donkey preaching humility, love and tolerance. He lacked Twitter but did have a few committed followers. He ended up with a crown of thorns, splinters in his backside, and scourged until he was medium rare for his troubles.

You don’t need to be a biblical scholar to recall what the Romans nailed him for. It’s emblazoned on every cross made for the last two millennia. INRI; Iesus Nazarenus Rex ludaeorum; Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.

Falsely claiming to be a monarch in The Levant comes with serious consequences and, well, someone should have brought this to Queen B’s attention. Under the circumstances craving a different kind of buzz rather than messing with Hezbollah’s seems prudent.

Lorde’s proposed visit energised the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement into action. As well as an appalling lack of foresight in acronyms the BDSM are focused on stopping trade with Israel.

They are hailing her decision not to go as the biggest win for Palestinian Rights since the West Bank was liberated from Jordan’s illegal occupation in 1967. Go Lorde.

But for our heroine, now woke to

her need not to offend, comes the issue of her avatar. It’s disrespectful to Jesus, devout Christians and probably Roseanne Barr. She may want to adopt something more apt. Medusa, perhaps, or Pandora. Pandorae, maybe.
