Aussie flat white the poor relation

-

The results are in. According to the style bible of the world, Vogue, Kiwis do a better flat white than their Aussie counterparts.

However, the Aussies have now successfully exported their flat whites and other favourites such as crushed avocado on toast to the United States.

‘‘Aussie Cafes’’ have been popping up all over the place, from New York all the way across the continent to San Francisco and LA.

Apparently these Aussie Cafes are so popular that you can barely walk a few blocks in Manhattan before bumping into one of them with names such as Two Hands, Toby’s Estate, Citizens of Chelsea, Banter, Ruby’s, Brunswick and Sweatshop.

But despite all the success the Aussies are claiming with flat whites in America, it pays to remember that New Zealand also lays claim to inventing this coffee variation. So when it came down to it, Vogue was quick to point out that New Zealand had the advantage when it came to who made the better coffee.

First, because New Zealand prides itself on having a superior and purer dairy industry, and secondly, because Kiwis typically use espresso shots in their coffees, opposed to the much weaker ristretto shots favoured by the Aussies.

So while the Americans might currently be happy with Aussie cafes colonising the States, it might not be too long before they discover New Zealand coffee packs more of a punch, and Kiwi cafes take over.
