Parkes stars
Rugby: Todd Blackadder’s Bath team were thrashed by Wayne Pivac’s Welsh champions Scarlets in the European Champions Cup rugby competition yesterday. New Zealand-born Wales test centre Hadleigh Parkes was among the try-scorers in Scarlets’ 35-18 win at Bath’s Recreation Ground. Pivac’s Pro 12 champions raced out to a 22-3 lead at halftime and racked up four tries. Hunterville-raised Parkes, who played club rugby in Christchurch but never made the Canterbury team or earned a contract at Blackadder’s Crusaders, scored to cap a lineout move which began at the halfway mark after earlier putting wing Paul Asquith over for a try with an exquisite pass.
