King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Polygondwanalan (Self released)
★★★★
At the beginning of 2017 the young Melbourne psychedelic kings promised to release five albums within the year. Polygonwanaland is their fourth and helps to cement their position as one of the world’s most prolific bands. It’s certainly impressive and you get the idea that each one of the group’s seven members is an absolute workaholic that seldom puts down the instrument. Polygon is classic Gizzard in many ways with an abundance of fuzzy and quirky guitar riffs, rapid fills and psychedelic mayhem. It’s at times an almost progressive rock album with plenty of superb dynamics and shifting moods. The Gizzard boys are certainly setting the standards for modern musical productivity and this 12th record suggests quantity doesn’t need to compromise quality. – Hugh Collins
