Going nuclear

I laughed at the propagandist World Nuclear Association’s claim that ‘‘Nuclear is a sustainable option . . . it would provide the power for Auckland’s continued growth’’ (‘‘The nuclear option’’, January 14).

Beyond the lie of ‘‘sustainability,’ is continued urban growth healthy, much less ‘‘sustainable’’?

Cancer, too, is growth, often generated by nuclear radiation. So I stopped laughing when ACT’s David Seymour, in the same article, tells us that ‘‘apart from Chernobyl . . . nuclear has always been a safe form of power.’’
