Pacific risks

-

Military involvement with the US in the Pacific should not be considered an issue of peace and security.

The Korean Peninsula may seem the most bizarre and immediately dangerous of US adventures (the Doomsday Clock has just been moved closer to midnight).

But it would not be the first mistake made by New Zealand in this alliance. Look back to Vietnam.

Withdrawing from military cooperation with US forces would send a message for diplomacy, even sanity, and would be the best way for New Zealand to have a positive impact on the situation. It will be seen to be more reasonable the longer Trump is in charge, but is long overdue anyway.
