Finns’ dark desire
Finland says it will lobby for the abolition of daylight saving time in the European Union, after more than 70,000 Finns signed a petition last year. No EU member can independently end the practice of advancing clocks by an hour during summer months. A parliamentary committee in Finland has concluded that the change causes short-term sleeping disorders and reduced work performance, and could also lead to serious health problems. The Finns may be particularly irritated by daylight saving because their country’s high latitude means they see little benefit from it.
