Exotic Honda to hit NZ
It’s been a two-year wait, but Honda New Zealand has confirmed that it will launch the second-generation NSX supercar in May.
That’s all it has to say for now – no further details have been announced, but expect the cost of the hi-tech model to match or exceed that of rival machines from Audi and Porsche. We’re picking a price of at least $400,000.
The exotic NSX is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 with a triple-electric-motor hybrid system: two on the front axle and a direct-drive unit at the rear. It offers a combined output of 427kW and 646Nm, and it can blast to 100kmh in less than three seconds.
It also features what Honda calls Sport Hybrid Super Handling AllWheel Drive (SH-AWD), a first-ofits-kind technology in the supercar arena.
The three hybrid-electric motors are employed to enhance every element of the vehicle’s performance: acceleration, braking and cornering.
The original NSX was launched in 1989 and is now considered a game-changer in the supercar segment, providing a solid kick in the pants to established marques such as Ferrari and Lamborghini.
A second-generation version was planned for quite some time, but the project wilted under the pressures of the Global Financial Crisis. This new model was launched globally in 2016.
