Orchestral loyalties

I have read with interest about the encroachment of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra into Auckland.

I am not sure on what basis the Ministry for Culture and Heritage can claim there is more capacity in the Auckland market for orchestras. There are often empty seats at NZSO concerts. It would be helpful to have a statistical breakdown of audience numbers for both orchestras.

As a full subscriber to both the APO and the NZSO I have recently received the brochures for both orchestras for the 2019 season. However, I like many others on a fixed income, will have to make a decision as to whether to continue with both subscriptions. At this stage it will be the NZSO that will miss out.

I want to continue to support our excellent Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra given the work they do in the Auckland region.
