Lany

- – Kate Robertson

Malibu Nights (Polydor) ★★★

If you love a gory breakup album, Lany’s sophomore record will more than scratch that itch. Detailing frontman Paul Klein’s breakup with Dua Lipa in graphic detail, there’s more in these nine tracks than in an E! True Hollywood Story. Subject matter aside, it’s a nice record. Nice enough to have on while you’re cooking dinner, but not nice enough to have you seeking it out time and again.

I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore, Thick and Thin and Valentine’s Day pack a punch, while the other six tracks cushion them but, at times, feel a little beige. A hazy, soft pop record rich with the brand of LA cool Lany has become known for, add Malibu Nights to your ‘‘Summer Chill’’ playlist.
