Zeit bites: Paranormal fun
As my nana always says, ‘‘forewarned is forearmed’’, which is why I’m stoked the very serious and important reality TV show Wellington Paranormal has returned for a second season.
If you haven’t seen the first season, it’s waiting for you on TVNZ OnDemand.
If you have seen it, then I’m sure, like me, you’re delighted to see your tax dollars are still hard at work serving and protecting decent, warm-blooded, unpossessed Kiwis, keeping them safe from . . . well, indecent, cold-blooded, possessed Kiwis, who are probably perfectly nice people when they’re not spewing green bile and trying to eat our faces off – but you get my drift.
(Please don’t accuse me of dead-ism, you wouldn’t want one decomposing on your sofa, either.)
It’s a little known fact (by which I mean a blatant lie) that former Prime Minster John Key was misquoted as saying Wellington was a dying city.
He actually said: ‘‘Wellington is a city full of the undead, and they do not vote National.’’
That explains why he never liked it here, I reckon. Anyway, I’m a Wellingtonian, born and raised (naturally, I might add. I wasn’t summoned from the Hellmouth, no matter what you’ve heard), so believe me when I say political cameos, a guy you kind of know from ‘‘around’’ becoming suddenly famous, and mythological creatures flopping about in the harbour, are about as accurate a depiction of life (and unlife) in Wellington as it’s possible to get. Well done, New Zealand Documentary Board.
To get yourself properly forearmed, join Sergeant Ru¯a¯wai Maaka (Maaka Po¯hatu), officers Minogue (Mike Minogue) and O’Leary (Karen O’Leary), and newest recruit Parker (Tom Sainsbury) as they tackle paranormal events in New Zealand’s capital city on TVNZ 2 and OnDemand on Wednesdays.
For added information, be sure to check out the What We Do In The Shadows documentary movie spinoff What We Do In The Shadows, on Neon, too.
