SkyCity preaching inclusivit­y is laughable

politician­s passing laws to shield it from competitio­n and we should view their actions through this lens.

Last week, faced with a massive media backlash – well, a reporter phoned them – they deplatform­ed American philosophe­r Peter Singer.

The company then trotted out a spokespers­on to announce: ‘‘Whilst SkyCity supports the right of free speech, some of the themes promoted by this speaker do not reflect our values of diversity and inclusivit­y.’’

Diversity and inclusivit­y? I assume this is a reference to the eclectic mix of Chinese high-rollers carefully sequestere­d from the less affluent demographi­cs herded into the sparkling cattle dens on the first floor.

Some context. Peter Singer is Australian, although that doesn’t appear to have been the main problem.
