Series explores Tiger King’s weird world
Joe Exotic: Tiger King is a Wondery podcast presented by journalist Robert Moor and explores the nooks and crannies the TV show doesn’t. The same characters you meet in the TV series are interviewed in the podcasts, but the intimacy of the pod medium inevitably means the interviews cover more personal ground.
Like the Netflix show, the podcast’s main focus is the relationship between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin. Moor spent years interviewing some of the characters and, as a result, the podcast has more information about how Joe got his tigers and some of his previous relationships. It’s still stranger than fiction, but a good listen.
Fans of The Office have had two TV bites of the cherry, with the original British version starring Ricky Gervais, and the American remake starring Steve Carell. Even though the American version finished up in 2013, the show still has a huge following, so last year two of its co-stars teamed up for a podcast aptly named Office Ladies.
Actresses Jenna Fischer who played Pam Beesly, and Angela Kinsey who played Angela Martin, wanted to give fans a chance to celebrate the off-air series. In each instalment of the pod, they re-watch an episode of the show and share memories and behind-the-scenes information.
They are joined by fellow Office stars, and discuss everything from what it was like to remake the iconic series, to whether they thought it would work for a United States audience, as well as reliving some of the show’s most memorable moments. The two are best friends in real life, so the chemistry is great, and they really give new life to the episodes fans have spent years watching on repeat.
Another Netflix show getting the podcast treatment is The Good Place, starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell.
The Good Place: The Podcast is an official companion podcast that ran while the series was still out, with the last episode coinciding with the finale of the TV show last November.
All four series of The Good Place are on Netflix and, with many of us pondering the big questions about life and the universe right now, it’s enjoying a renaissance.
The podcast is hosted by actor Marc Evan Jackson, who played Shawn on the show and each episode features interviews with the cast and producers, sharing on- and off-screen tales.
