South Australia is the ultimate food and wine lover’s destination. This winter, a road trip along the Epicurean Way is just the ticket to feeling as good as new.

Sip a glass of red as you cosy up beside a warm fireplace at a cellar door, and feel those winter blues melt away.

Adelaide: Your gateway to foodie heaven

South Australia’s biggest city is the perfect place to begin your holiday, boasting a wealth of restaurants, bars, cafes and fine dining establishments.

South Australia’s top cellar doors are on your doorstep, with the closest one just ten minutes’ drive. Base yourself at the Oaks Glenelg Liberty Suites in Adelaide and explore nearby wine regions during the day.

McLaren Vale

Just over 30 minutes south of Adelaide, this wine region is home to the largest biodynamic winery in Australia. d’Arenberg Wine is an otherworldly cellar door housed in the d’Arenberg Cube, an iconic structure that seems to float above the vineyards beneath.

Feeling peckish? The Currant Shed’s local, seasonal produce is just the ticket, and the gorgeous setting amidst a lime grove and vineyards is just divine.

Combine food and wine at Maxwell Wines. Opt for an informal wine tasting or a personally guided flight, then relax with a picnic outside with a cheese board.

Adelaide Hills

Adelaide Hills is a region of fairytale villages, world-class wineries and award-winning regional cuisine.

Feast on a 7-course chef’s menu and matching wines at The Lane Vineyard, where all the ingredients you consume are traceable and have been ethically produced.

Woodside Cheese Wrights has you sorted in the cheese department, with an award-winning selection of artisan cheese handcrafted with milk sourced from local dairy farms.

Barossa

This renowned wine region is not to be

missed on a self-drive journey along the Epicurean Way.

Meet local producers and savour their goods at the Barossa Farmers Market, then head to Pindarie Estate for a heritage wine tasting experience in restored stables and a grain room.

Finally, a visit to the Barossa is not complete without a visit to Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop. Taste Maggie’s delicious products or enjoy casual dining at The Farm Eatery.

Clare Valley

One of Australia’s oldest wine regions, Clare Valley offers romantic dining and simple, authentic wines -- Riesling being the region’s signature.

Established by Jesuit priests in 1851, Sevenhill Cellars is the oldest winery in the region. Enjoy a wine tasting before touring the historic underground cellars and crypt.

Down the road is Pikes Wines, nestled amongst 100 hectares of rolling vineyards that grow over 20 different grape varieties.

Don’t miss Skillogalee, home to one of the region’s most acclaimed wines and a fireplace that adds some cosiness to afternoon tastings.

Kangaroo Island

Take an 8-day guided tour and explore the outback scenery and wildlife of the Flinders Ranges before a quick stop in Adelaide, then head to Kangaroo Island for more wildlife encounters plus local produce and wine.

Here, you’ll find Clifford’s Honey Farm, a family-run business that makes quality honey from the unique Ligurian bee found only on the island. Enjoy a tasting in a unique structure made from recycled wood, jetty timbers and stone at the False Cape Wine Cellar Door on the Dudley Peninsula.

Tuck into a two or three course lunch at Vivonne Bay Bistro, which offers a menu catering to vegetarians and those with food tolerances.

This winter, head across the ditch to recharge the body and mind with some of Australia’s best food and wine. We promise you, you won’t regret it!
