Big demand for beer-branded T-shirts

The limited run of Taranaki Draught is selling well but it’s the beer-branded T-shirts which the loyalists are really frothing over.

The Mill Liquorsave has been overwhelme­d by demand for Taranaki Draught T-shirts, says general manager Stephen Fromont.

As part of the Taranaki Draught relaunch last week The Mill ordered an initial run of 500 commemorat­ive T-shirts to give away but they didn’t last long.

‘‘They pretty much went in the first few days so we have another 2000 being produced now.

‘‘We knew the beer would be popular, as Taranaki Draught has always had a really loyal following, but the response has taken us a bit by surprise.’’

Mr Fromont said the beer and T-shirts had been sent to homesick expats in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong and demand from customers had also seen the company make special shipments to their stores in Wellington, Palmerston North, Wanganui and Hamilton.

At a promotiona­l giveaway on Friday Inglewood’s Dean and Michelle Bremner scored a free T-shirt for buying two dozen Taranaki Draught.

Mr Bremner was wearing his old Taranaki draught T-shirt, which he got when the beer was last on sale more than a decade ago.

‘‘I thought I’d better dig out my old T-shirt and see if it still fits,’’ Mr Bremner said.

‘‘It had a few moth holes in it but it’s all good.’’
