New editor for ‘Le Monde’

France’s most august newspaper, Le Monde, is on the verge of appointing a new editor-in-chief. If confirmed by a staff vote, Natalie Nougayrede, a foreign correspondent, would become the first woman to run any major French daily. Le Monde’s three main shareholders chose Nougayrede, 46, after failing to agree on a choice from three more senior candidates.
