2014 NEW PLYMOUTH GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PRIZE
Dux Literati (Academic Dux): Eleanor (Ellie) Tvrdeich Ellie Tvrdeich was named Dux Literati (Academic Dux) of New Plymouth Girls’ High School on 3rdNovember 2014. Ellie gained Level 3 NCEA with Excellence and University Entrance as a Year 12 student in 2013 (having already achieved NCEA Levels 1 and 2 with Excellence). This year Ellie is taking another five Level 3 subjects and sitting three NZ Scholarships. In 2015 Ellie will be attending Victoria University - Wellington to study International Business and International Law. Ellie was awarded a $3,000 University of Otago Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship and a $20,000 Victoria University Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship.While at school Ellie received five Honours Awards in Leadership, two Academic and two in Sport as well as the NPGHS Scholar Award for being a Top Scholar (top 10 in year level) for 5 consecutive years. Ellie also involved herself in; Hillary Challenge, Cross Country, Track & Field, Triathlon, Rogaine, Model United Nations, Monetary Policy Challenge, Literacy Quiz and was also an outstanding Deputy Head Girl. Proxime accessit: (Kate) McDonald Kate McDonald was named Proxime Accessit of New Plymouth Girls’ High School on 3rd November. Last year Kate gained Level 3 NCEA with Excellence, University Entrance and NZ Scholarship in English as a Year 12 student in 2013 (having achieved NCEA Levels 1 and 2 with Merit and Excellence respectively prior to that).This year Kate has been studying three further Level 3 subjects, two university papers and is sitting five NZ Scholarships. In 2015 Kate will be studying Law as well as completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and English at Victoria University in Wellington. Kate was awarded a $5,000 Victoria University Excellence Scholarship. Overall Kate received four Honours Awards, three in Arts and one Academic. While at school Kate also took part in; School Productions, Choir, Music, Drama, Shakespeare Competitions, Writing Competitions, Literacy Quiz, Football and was a superb Performing Arts Leader in Music. Dux Ludorum (Sports Kelly Jury Kelly Jury was named Dux Ludorum (Sports Dux) of New Plymouth Girls’ High School on 3rd November. Kelly has represented the school at Netball and Tennis (making the national finals for the last three consecutive years) and was also Deputy Tutor Group Representative. Kelly played Netball for New Zealand in the Under 17 Team. She received an Honours Blazer, Badge and two Bars for representing her country in the U17 Netball Team and being selected for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic Netball Team. This year Kelly is studying toward NCEA Level 3 having gained both Level 1 and 2 endorsed with Excellence. Next year Kelly will be playing for The Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in the 2015 ANZ Championship where she will be the youngest player. She will be studying part time at Waikato University doing Sport & Leisure Studies. Kelly received a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship from The University of Waikato which pays for all her fees, tuition and training. Runner Up to Dux Ludorum (Sports Runner Up): Connie Poletti Connie Poletti was named Runner Up to Dux Ludorum (Sports Runner Up) of New Plymouth Girls’ High School on 3rd November. Connie has represented the school at Basketball. She has also represented New Zealand in both the U17 and U18 Basketball Teams. Connie has received an Honours Blazer, Badge, and three Bars for representing her country two times and winning the NZ Secondary School Basketball Competition as part of the NPGHS Hawkes Basketball Team.This year, Connie is sitting NCEA Level 3 having gained both Level 1 and 2 endorsed with Merit. In 2015, Connie will be moving to Christchurch to play for the Canterbury Basketball Team and finding work before taking up a full basketball scholarship in August at Crowder College in Missouri, USA and studying toward a four year Degree in Business.
