BD Love back in business

-

Over two years of frustration will come to an end for Ken Barron at Addington when BD Love resumes in the feature trot.

One of the top two and threeyear-old trotters in a crop which included Monbet, Speeding Spur and Prince Fearless, the now 6-year-old BD Love has raced only once in the 27 months since.

Co-owner and trainer Barron had BD Love back at the trials in late 2015 as a 4-year-old but the Love You gelding missed that entire season.

‘‘He was still growing and weak, had sore feet and got crook – there was a whole heap of little niggles so we turned him out again,’’ said Barron.

Recommissioned in the winter last year, BD Love was heading towards the Cup meeting but started just the once in October before being tipped out for the season again.

‘‘He just wasn’t trotting any good at that stage – he had a haematoma on a leg so out he went again. Pretty much anything you could name that could go wrong, it did with him.’’

BD Love had earlier looked an open class trotter in the making and it is only a matter of time before he gets there this season, all things being equal and without any further issues.

As a juvenile on debut at Rangiora, BD Love sat outside Monbet and beat him in national record time and a few weeks later he pushed Prince Fearless to half a length in the Sales race with Speeding Spur third.

BD Love downed Everybody Knows when he resumed in a maiden race at three and later he finished second to Speeding Spur in the Sales race.
