Home DIY: Make a hallway hanging rack

-

Every hallway needs a hanging rack and if you’re without, this could be the perfect weekend DIY task for you.

Create a hallway hanging rack from moulding, nails, hammer and some sturdy branches with strong twigs which will serve as your hooks.

It creates a rustic rack, perfect for a country or Scandinavianstyle home.

Hang it above a console and use it to store keys, hats and dog leads, or on a bare spot on the wall so you can also hang coats and umbrellas off it.

Make it as long as you need; the more branches you put in, the more hooks you’ll have to hang items from.

You have the option to leave it natural (maybe with a little exterior stain on the frame to give it a richer hue), or you could paint the frame black, white or give it a pop of colour such as millennial pink or a dusty green. Just be sure to choose a colour that suits your style.

EQUIPMENT

❚ Wooden moulding

❚ 6 sturdy branches

❚ Nails

❚ Hammer

❚ Exterior stain

❚ Paint brush

METHOD

Make the frame first with four pieces of moulding (if you want your rack longer or deeper than ours, you may need to add bracing to the back to keep it firm.)

Cut branches to length and nail into place, making sure the branches’ arms face out to act as hooks.

Finally, paint the frame with exterior stain. Allow to dry and then hang it on the wall.

Use it to store keys, hats and dog leads, or hang it on a bare spot on the wall so you can also hang coats and umbrellas off it.
