Super-spacious in desirable setting
It’s not surprising that, seven years after buying this home at 2 Kinross Drive in New Plymouth, Peter and Carol still love its space and fine features.
This is an immaculately presented home in one of the city’s premier residential settings, with huge space inside and framed by beautifully landscaped grounds. It’s a timeless design from about 1990 in charcoal brick, with a dark-tiled roof and white-pillared pergola features off the living areas.
‘‘When we were place just stood recalls.
The white and red roses in the gardens were in bloom when they arrived to look at it, Carol remembers. ‘‘It just looked magnificent. I walked in and said ‘Wow!’.’’
What is surprising, then, is that Peter and Carol have never lived here.
There’s a reason for that, the couple explains. They are farming near Lepperton, are still enjoying that, and have revised their original plans for retiring into town. ‘‘When push comes to shove, we are not quite ready,’’ Carol says.
They weren’t ready seven years ago, either, but expected then to let the farm go in the near future and put in a tenant in the interim. That turned into seven years, the tenant has now moved on and the couple doubt they will find any tenant as good again. So they have decided to sell here.
It’s not without real regrets, says Carol. ‘‘We’ve loved this place; even though we have not lived here. I was walking around the gardens the other day and came in to say to Peter ‘Why would we sell this place?’ . . . and he said ‘You’ve taken the words clean out of my mouth’. It’s going to be quite difficult to let it go.’’
They had decided to refresh the decor and the completion of that work is another prompt for the sale, with new carpet laid throughout the house, the interior repainted, and bathrooms fully refurbished. They feel new owners will appreciate the as-new presentation.
That decision is supported by Remax Team Realty consultant Cherry Holden who says prospective buyers will be impressed with the home’s superb presentation, private setting and superspacious living.
The presentation you find on arrival immediately captures you. The section at the corner of Kinross Drive and Karina Rd is looking, this out,’’ Peter fully planted on both street frontages, with the slightly elevated boundary along Karina Rd adding extra privacy to the northfacing living areas and patios. Concrete-block retaining walls incorporate planters with striking tall purple cordylines rising above them, backed by a trellis fence. After turning the corner, the trellis fence steps up to meet brick pillars at the Kinross Dr driveway.
Clipped buxus borders and standard roses line the pathway from the street entrance and draw you in past the double garage to the front door.
Step inside and you find a foyer welcome that evolves into a step-down lounge feature with a conservatory space in front and a raised dining area on the other side. It’s a large open area that enjoys an extra sense of space with the added depth of the lounge seating. The conservatory is a great place to enjoy a coffee in the morning sun, says Carol.
On the other side of the dining area is a huge gourmet and a family area.
The kitchen is impressive; an eyecatching combination of glossy duck-egg-blue cabinets and charcoal Corian bench tops. It’s a huge space that’s capable of catering to a seriously large gathering. A wealth of drawer space is complemented by a free-standing central island bench and quality appliances: a newly installed integrated fridge-freezer, a new double-drawer dishwasher, a oneand-a-half wall oven and a pair of electric and gas hobs separated by a slim rise-up extractor fan. Sliding windows frame lush views of the gardens outside.
Sliding doors open the adjacent family area to the sunny pillared patio and the lawn.
French doors at the end of the family area open into another small living area that looks out to the patio outside. There is another set of french doors in here opening into the master bedroom. A huge walk-in wardrobe off the bedroom is complemented by a generous ensuite that’s finely finished in charcoal floor tiles and white wall tiles, with a feature wall of tiny tiles in charcoal framing the vanity and mirror.
A short passage leads back to the step-down living area and from there another hallway leads to the home’s other three double bedrooms, family bathroom, separate third toilet, separate laundry, and the internal-access double garaging where you note the Beam internal vacuum system installation.
Cherry Holden says the multiple, flexible living options will satisfy the needs of many buyers. ‘‘It will appeal to people with young families, with teenagers, or for extended family . . . any type of demographic of the buyer pool.’’
At more than 330sqm, this home is almost half as big again as today’s average home. ‘‘A lot of people will be astonished by the space in this home . . . it just keeps going.’’ kitchen
