Pack a torch if you are com­ing to South Africa be­cause the gov­ern­ment has im­posed rolling power cuts that are due to last two years. Cape Town, the coun­try’s top tourist des­ti­na­tion, has only just emerged from a pe­riod of acute wa­ter short­ages. The first power cuts plunged sev­eral sig­nif­i­cant events into dark­ness, in­clud­ing a court hear­ing in­volv­ing cor­rup­tion charges against Pres­i­dent Ja­cob Zuma and a par­lia­men­tary com­mit­tee hear­ing ev­i­dence of graft. The graft hear­ing in­volv­ing Zuma had to be con­ducted in the dark
