Barretts drank milk from Webb Ellis Cup

-

The sweet taste of victory – All Blacks star Beauden Barrett celebrated winning the 2015 Rugby World Cup by drinking cow’s milk from the Webb Ellis Cup on his family’s farm in Taranaki.

In an interview with CNN, All Blacks Beauden, Scott and Jordie Barrett provided an insight into their younger years spent growing up on a farm on the west coast of the North Island.

Beauden also recounted a hilarious story when he brought the Webb Ellis Cup back to the farm after winning the World Cup.

He said their father Kevin filled the trophy with milk from their cows.

‘‘Creamy white milk looks so good in the gold cup,’’ Beauden told CNN.

Beauden said growing up on a farm meant the brothers were regularly outside playing sport, so it’s no surprise three of them went on to play for the All Blacks.

‘‘It certainly helped just having acres and acres of green grass, a back lawn where there’s goal posts and plenty of siblings and cousins around to compete with and play against,’’ he said.

‘‘I think that the only thing that mum ever forced us into doing was dropping us off at the top of the road and grabbing our school bag. She’d give us a pair of sneakers and say, ‘Run home’,’’ he said.

‘‘I was more than happy to not wear shoes. The only time we wore shoes was on Sunday when we went to church,’’ says Beauden.

‘‘Our feet were pretty tough back then, I couldn’t do it today.’’
