Their land, their decision

W.May acts like a petulant little colonialist from the 1860s with his claim that Taranaki is at the mercy of Ngati Tama over the Mount Messenger bypass project (TDN, Oct 3). Next thing you know he’ll be demanding the government invade Ngati Tama and confiscate their land. Fat chance. Mr May may not like Ngati Tama taking their time to consider their position but it is their land, their people and their decision and I for one respect their right to determine their own destiny as they see fit.
