New Plymouth Marist United will take on New Plymouth Boys’ High School First XI on December 15 at Pukekura Park in the 2019 final of the Revital Fertilisers Premier One-Day cricket competition.
Top qualifiers after the round-robin portion of the competition, NPMU took on Inglewood in the semifinal at Lynmouth Park. Having won the toss and electing to bat NPMU made a steady start. However the introduction of left-arm spinner Luke
Dravitzki paid immediate dividends as he struck three quick blows which saw NPMU reeling at 37 for six after 16 overs.
Ryan Watson, having come off a week with the CD Stags, showed some class on the difficult wicket as he set about rebuilding the innings. Watson got through to 57 when stumped off the bowling of Clint Frost with the score 109-8 with still 10 overs left. Jacob Richards and Michael Blanks conservatively saw the final 10 overs out the pair adding 47 runs.
With the pitch taking turn NPMU opened with their own left-arm spinner in Daniel Bernet. The Inglewood openers
NPMU 156-8 (Ryan Watson 57; Luke Dravitksi 4-22) beat Inglewood 60 (Daniel Bernet 4-12) by 96 runs.
NPBHS 221-8 (Sebastian Lauderdale Smith
60, Oliver Burbridge 38, Shale Foy 35; Kyle Pillay 4-46) beat NPOB 140 (Mattie Thomas
42, Ben Mitchell 29) by 81 runs.
struggled as Bernet picked up the first three wickets and Inglewood were restricted to 27 for three after 11 overs.
With Inglewood requiring a middle order revival, all they got were three ducks in a row. On the other side of town NPBHS taught NPOB a lesson on how to build an innings. NPBHS won the toss and batted first with openers Sebastian Lauderdale Smith and Oliver Burbidge combining for a 98-run opening stand. Lauderdale Smith was dismissed first, top scoring with 60. He was soon joined by Burbidge for 38. Shale Foy (35) and Ben Frewin (22) contributed best of the rest as NPBHS finished on 221 for eight. NPOB started badly at 16-3 before the Taranaki duo of Davis Mills and Mattie Thomas combined for a 65-run partnership to help the innings. Ben Mitchell scored 29 but NPOB crumbled all out for 140.
