Two-day club cricket competition continues

- Travis Stewart

Premier club cricket recommenced last weekend after the Christmas break with a couple of lopsided days of cricket.

Competition leaders New Plymouth Boys’ High School (NPBHS) have their work cut out for them on day two against New Plymouth Old Boys (NPOB).

On day one, NPOB posted 280 all out with opener Oli Burbidge scoring his maiden premier century for the club with 142.

NPBHS seamer Brayden Baker picked up six for 42.

In reply, NPBHS got to stumps at 44 for seven, with Ben Frewin doing all the damage with six for 15.

New Plymouth Marist United (NPMU) hold the upper hand over Stratford.

Batting first NPMU posted 211, a total that could have been a lot more if it wasn’t for a terribly slow outfield.

Robbie Yule posted a half century with opener Ryan Fleming dismissed for 49.

Stratford finished the day on 26 for four, with Ryan Watson near on unplayable, picking up three wickets.

The game between Ha¯ wera and Inglewood is evenly poised with Ha¯wera posting 160 all out with Adam Keene (51) and Keith Muller (31).

Inglewood went to stumps at 95 for four after 50 overs so they will want to get a move on if they want to secure any batting bonus points.

The final game of the round saw Francis Douglas Memorial College (FDMC) knocked out for 115 against Woodleigh.

Woodleigh secured the first innings points being dismissed for 150 with Taranaki keeper Phil Barraclough making a half century.

FDMC were in dire straits in their second innings at four for three before Terry Norgate and Lenny Chapman combined for an unbeaten 46 run partnership to see the college through to stumps at 50 for four, a lead of 15 runs.
